Endorsement: Keep Judge Amy Lorenzini

Circuit Court Judge Endorsement

Judge Amy Lorenzini has my vote, and I hope you’ll join me in voting to keep her as our Circuit Court Judge this Primary Election. Her impressive career record, and extensive experience, is reason enough to vote for her. But what I’ve learned, and witnessed, watching Judge Lorenzini campaign has convinced me of her impeccable ability to judge in a fair, and firm, manner.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t really sure which candidate to vote for in this race. Both candidates have a wealth of information on their websites, and both women have incredible legal careers. With so many signs along the roadways, it’s obvious the race is competitive. Disproportionate endorsements from the local political establishment favoring one candidate prompted me to do more research.

Judge Lorenzini is the only candidate who possesses significant experience across different types of law, including civil and criminal proceedings, jury trials, family law, business litigation, and more. This knowledge was gained throughout her law career, and has been applied during Lorenzini’s time as our Circuit Court Judge. On the campaign trail, Lorenzini said she has sentenced above recommended state guidelines when it is warranted, a fact backed up by public records. Judge Lorenzini delivers on her fair, but firm, promise.

I attended two forums to listen to, and more importantly observe, the candidates. Judge Lorenzini arrived early and stayed late, engaging in conversations with everyone. I spotted her at the recent budget public forum standing with educators. Amy has supported and participated with organizations like Warfighter Advance, Three Oaks Center, St. Mary’s County Special Olympics, Shop with a Cop, Hospice Walk, St. Mary’s County 4-H, the Farm Bureau, various county Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, and more.

Amy doesn’t tell the community what it needs, she invites us in and listens. As a Judge, she has worked to connect the courthouse with the community to further understanding of the judicial process. This subtle difference is, I believe, what propels Judge Amy Lorenzini forward as the best choice in this election.

I was born and raised in this county, and I sincerely believe Judge Amy Lorenzini is the right choice for St. Mary’s. Early voting is May 2-9, with Election Day May 14th. Please join me in voting to keep Judge Amy Lorenzini as our Circuit Court Judge.

Appointed by former Governor Larry Hogan after a lengthy vetting process, Judge Lorenzini has presided over cases in the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court for the last two years. She began her career in St. Mary’s County as a clerk for Judge Marvin Kaminetz, and assisted him in starting the Juvenile Drug and Teen Court programs. Then, Lorenzini was an Assistant State’s Attorney in the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for two years. Prior to becoming our Circuit Court Judge, Amy practiced law at Cumberland & Erly for 17 years, 8 of which were spent as Partner.

Throughout her career, Amy has represented an innumerable number of cases across various disciplines. These include family law cases like divorce, custody, domestic violence, guardianships, and estate administration; civil litigation, business, and contract law; criminal defense and jury trial experience. Amy was appointed as a Best Interest Attorney for kids, to represent alleged disabled persons in the guardianship process, and as counsel for active duty military through the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

Judge Lorenzini’s many career accomplishments have been recognized by the Maryland State Bar Association, Maryland Daily Record, Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition.

I admire the amount of community involvement Judge Lorenzini fits into her schedule, and volunteerism is as diverse as her career experience. She’s focused on the youth through coaching St. Mary’s County Youth Soccer, and volunteering for Project Graduation, Shop with a Cop, and the High School Mock Trial Program. She’s given back as a coordinator and volunteer attorney with the Family Law Clinic, as a member of the Christmas in April Planning Committee, coordinating a Christmas Food Drive, and as a current member of the Hollywood Lions Club.
