The owner of the property has applied for and been granted a property tax incentive under the the county’s Property Tax Challenge program which was passed as a county Ordinance in April 2021. This program is managed by the Department of Economic Development and is meant to spur revitalization to improve quality of life in commercial areas of Lexington Park.
The property owner intends to invest $830,000, more than the assessed value of the property, to make improvements including:
Total rebuild and renovation of the space occupied by Sign of the Whale
New outside facade for the entire building, including new windows and doors
New sidewalks
Asphalt overlay of the parking lot.
This is the first application to the Property Tax Challenge program that the county has received. The Commissioners unanimously approved the application at the Tuesday, January 24th meeting.
