Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home

Disturbing news reported today by Maryland Matters regarding the Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home. From the article:

"In January, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a series of reports highlighting concerns at the facility. The agency gave Charlotte Hall a one out of five-star rating accompanied with a warning about reports of abuse."

Governor Wes Moore said yesterday "As both a combat veteran and the state's commander in chief, I am both personally disturbed and professionally enraged to learn of the level of disregard that has been given to the treatment of these patriots."

This news is troubling, especially given that Charlotte Hall is the only Veteran's Home in the state. Moreover, St. Mary's County has the 3rd highest veteran population in the state.

I understand the Veteran's Home is a state managed agency, but this begs the question--where was former Governor Larry Hogan as all this was unfolding? What have the County Commissioners done to push for this to be addressed? What have Delegate Matt Morgan and Senator Jack Bailey done to correct this?

The Commissioners know of the issue--At their meeting on Tuesday Commissioner President Guy remarked that the Veteran's Home has been dealing with ongoing staffing issues. Commissioner Colvin made a Facebook post this morning stating the Commissioners know about what's happening.

My question now is--what are they, Delegate Morgan, and Senator Bailey going to do to fast track solutions and why weren't they pushing former Governor Hogan to do the same?

Our veterans deserve better.
