Leonardtown Planning Updates

Significant changes are coming to a few familiar spots in Leonardtown as a result of recent decisions by the Town’s Planning Commission over the past two months.

KFC/Taco Bell is planned for complete renovation to the interior and exterior of the building, including resurfacing of the parking lot. Inside, plans show a reconfigured layout with the serving counter perpendicular to its current location (imagine an employee looking out towards Route 5 rather than towards Dash In). The exterior will be repainted to support the location’s rebranding as only a Taco Bell. These plans were approved by the Planning Commission in June.

At this month’s meeting, on July 17th, plans to update the Dash-In convenience store and gas station at the corner of Newtowne Neck Road and Route 5 were approved. The applicant proposes a complete demolition of the current site, with a relocation of the newly constructed store to the southwest corner of the property. A new gas canopy with six double sided pumps will also be built. The new store will face Route 5, with its back right corner pointing toward WesBanco.

Finally, the Commission approved a minor subdivision of Outparcel C of the Tudor Hall property. The parcel is next to the Citgo station on Route 5, where the “Chesledine Car Wash Coming Soon” sign stands. Though no plans have been brought forward for the car wash, this parcel’s subdivision is requested by owner Besche Oil Company in order to create a legal building lot. The plat document notes the 1,000 ft critical area boundary, non-tidal wetlands, and an intermittent stream are all present on the property.
