Open Meeting w/State Agencies & Commissioners
Tomorrow, September 24th at 6PM, the County Commissioners will meet with representatives of various state agencies to discuss St. Mary’s County transportation priorities listed in the Maryland Consolidated Transportation Plan (CTP). Attendees include Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld, as well as representatives from the Maryland Aviation Administration, Motor Vehicle Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, and Maryland Transportation Authority.
Local priorities (this is in no specific order) are:
Widening of MD 5 south of Camp Brown Rd near Point Lookout;
Replacing MD 5 bridge over Hilton Run, south of Great Mills Rd;
MD 4/235 intersection upgrade and Solomon’s bridge replacement;
Replacing MD 5 bridge over St. Mary’s River and upgrading Great Mills Rd/MD 5 intersection.
“The annual CTP Tour provides an open forum for local governments and the public to discuss
transportation needs and priorities,” according to a press release from the county government. Commissioner President Guy said “this meeting offers the opportunity for our community to engage directly with state officials on the transportation projects that will shape the future of St. Mary’s County.”
With local development continuing to expand, this meeting is the best time to raise YOUR concerns and questions to the decision makers, in person. The need for prioritizing the MD 4/Solomons bridge upgrades at the state level has been a recurring issue for years. The Commissioners have asked state agencies to move forward on this project numerous times.
Now, county residents who live with these issues everyday can provide direct testimony attesting to the importance of these projects.
PLEASE make time to attend this meeting.
