

St. Mary’s County Library Brief
During their meeting on 2/7/23, the Commissioners received a brief from Michael Blackwell, Director of St. Mary's County Library (SMCL). The presentation included facts about library usage.

Image Clear Ultrasound
Today someone saw a mobile RV unit from “Image Clear Ultrasound” parked in St. Mary’s Square on Great Mills Rd. Advertised on the side of the RV was the phrase “Free Pregnancy Tests and Ultrasound.”

A few weeks ago I posted about an Image Clear Ultrasound (ICU) Mobile Unit that was spotted in the St. Mary’s Square parking lot. I did quite a bit of research about this organization, how it is funded, and its mission.

Golden Beach Development
On February 13th, the Planning Commission will review a concept site plan for Golden Beach Development, which proposes a new shopping center where the Farmers Market is currently located.

School Based Health Centers Announced
During the Board of Health meeting on Tuesday, Dr. Brewster of the St. Mary’s County Health Department provided information about a newer healthcare resource in the county–school-based health centers.

Cedar Point Tavern Taven
Curious about what’s happening with the old Cedar Point Tavern building in Lexington Park? This was the site, more recently, of Sign of the Whale Liquors and other businesses.

Local Housing & School Capacity
On Tuesday, January 24th, the St. Mary’s County Board of Education and the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County held a joint meeting. One subject reviewed was approved or proposed housing projects and school capacity.

Leonardtown Dairy Queen
Leonardtown recently approved two projects, a Dairy Queen to be built behind Birdie’s (old Burchmart) where the car wash is now; and SOMD Orthopaedics on Hollywood Rd, near the entrance to the Leonard’s Grant neighborhood.

2023 Legislative Session Update
The Maryland General Assembly was sworn in on January 11th. Here’s an update on the progress of the St. Mary’s County Delegation.

Commissioner’s Public Meeting
On Tuesday, the County Commissioners will meet with the St. Mary’s County Delegation to discuss Commissioner & citizen proposed legislation. There were seven proposals submitted.

Stewart’s Grant
A new neighborhood development is planned for the area near Carver Elementary School.
